Own Interiors

For this class project, the goal was to create a self-directed website. We were expected to pick a topic, develop a layout, choose a color palette and overall aesthetic, optimize our own images and graphics, and put it all together in a small, yet comprehensive website. I chose to develop a website for a fictitious interior design firm, Own Interiors. The primary target audience was women homeowners between the ages of 35-65 with disposable income to invest in professional home improvements and interior design.

The Challenge

I began creating this website for my introductory web design class and I developed the three first pages in HTML and CSS only. Later, for an intermediate web design class, I transferred the website to WordPress and used the page builder Elementor to complete the remaining pages. The purpose of the website is to offer information about a residential and small business interior design team/firm. On the website, possible clients are able to find out more about the team’s philosophy and how they work, which services are offered, and learn about general interior design information through blog posts. The challenge was to create an overall coherent aesthetic that would be inviting to the primary target audience, women homeowners, while not excluding the other portion of the target group, small business owners who could be part of a male audience.
