The idea for this class project was to create a microsite mockup including layouts for desktop, tablet, and mobile. The single-page site I designed was to promote an art show opening to a broad audience of people interested in a conversation about art. But more specifically, the style and overall aesthetics of the site were created to appeal to a single, 18-35 years old, museum/gallery-goer audience.
The main challenge of this project was to create a coherent aesthetic and maintain it throughout the page. I changed the color palette and adjusted the layout as I moved through iteration phases, and the final result looked a lot different than my initial design. The primary calls to action were for visitors to join the mailing list and leave comments about the artwork or contribute to the discussion about art. My strategy for getting visitors to respond to my calls to action was to place the mailing list request and the contact form for comments towards the bottom of page. Why? Because I didn't want to ask for anything before offering something of value. The content on the top half of the page was created to inform and captivate my audience's attention and I believe that after having the chance to scroll through the page, they would be more likely to want to respond to the calls to action instead of being annoyed by it.
